    Biography

As a surgeon-scientist, Dr. Mangum investigates the mechanisms that drive vascular disease, with a particular focus on abdominal aortic aneurysms. His research explores how genetic and transcriptional pathways regulate vascular cell phenotype, contributing to disease progression. His lab uses sequencing-based approaches, GWAS data, in vitro assays, mouse models, and human samples to dissect the transcriptional programs in vascular smooth muscle cells that contribute to abdominal aortic aneurysm formation. Dr. Mangum has published his work in top-tier scientific journals such as the Journal of Clinical Investigation and JCI Insight. His research has been presented at national vascular biology and vascular surgery meetings, earning him several early career investigator awards. His clinical interests include peripheral artery disease, aneurysmal disease, venous disease, and arteriovenous malformations, and he is passionate about delivering innovative, patient-centered care informed by the latest scientific advances.
